The life and times of Graham Booth
Graham Booth MEP
Graham Booth MEP is a politician as part of the UKIP party, and represented South West England as a member of the European Parliament for six years between 2002 and 2008.
Graham Booth found his way into politics after a long career in building and tourism, and in 1999 was UKIPs deputy candidate for the MEP elections, won by Michael Holmes. When Holmes stepped down in 2002, Booth was made an MEP, and later won an election campaign of his own in 2004.
Whilst MEPs are not usually credited with making changes of note, Booth is widely regarded as the man who saved the Isles of Scilly helicopter shuttle service, which was in danger of being closed down after a new directive aimed at budget airlines made the service financially implausible.
Booth made a heart warming speech in parliament about how the service was the lifeblood of the island, and the EU Transport Commissioner made changes to the directive to allow the service to continue as a result.
